The neighborhood.
Cambria Heights is a quiet, middle-class, culturally diverse pocket of southeast Queens with a planned-suburb feel — very quiet, tree-lined streets, one of the highest elevations in Queens (~50 feet). The landmark globe lanterns on many homes are the visual signature.
It borders Nassau County and Elmont at the Belt Parkway, with a high concentration of church communities and the Ohel — resting place of the Lubavitcher Rebbe — drawing tens of thousands of visitors a year.
Housing stock & prices.
Mostly 1–2 story detached single-family homes built from the 1950s–1970s (67% detached), with some two-families and essentially no condos, co-ops, or townhouses. This is the cheapest detached-home entry of the three eastern neighborhoods.
Weichert's September 2026 snapshots put the median between $755K and $799K. Nearly 80% of households are families — blocks are owner-occupied, settled, and quiet.

Getting around.
The honest version: this is the longest commute of the ten guides. No subway, and no LIRR station is walkable (St. Albans, Queens Village, and Hollis are all 13–34 minutes on foot depending on the block). The X64 express bus reaches Midtown in just over an hour; the Q4/Q83 connect to Jamaica Center's trains. Realistic door-to-door: 1h15m–1h30m. About 63% of residents drive — this is a car neighborhood.
Walkability.
Cambria Heights scores 71/100 "Very Walkable" on Walk Score (151st in NYC) — though the Linden Blvd corridor runs 80–84 for specific addresses. Linden and Springfield Boulevards carry the daily errands (grocery, pharmacy, library), and the Q4 bus threads the neighborhood. But this is a driveway-and-garage neighborhood: blocks are long, the LIRR station is a drive away, and most households own a car. Car-optional for basics, car-normal for life.
Schools.
Cambria Heights is in NYC District 29 (ranked 549/874 statewide by SchoolDigger), and it has one genuine standout: P.S. 176 Cambria Heights (7/10 GreatSchools, B+ Niche, 61% math and 66% reading proficiency — top-400 in New York State per SchoolDigger), with a gifted & talented program parents actively zone-shop for. Beyond that, P.S./M.S. 147 Ronald McNair (3/10) and Cambria Heights Academy (5/10) are middling; families often look across the border to Elmont Memorial or Valley Stream schools, or toward The Institute for Health Professions at Cambria Heights (B+ Niche) for career-track high school.
Local favorites.
- Ohel Chabad Lubavitch. The resting place of the Lubavitcher Rebbe — one of the world's most visited Jewish pilgrimage sites, drawing thousands of visitors annually to Old Montefiore Cemetery.
- Cambria Playground. 4.6-acre neighborhood playground in the southwest with athletic fields, a splash pad, and a European fairytale-inspired playground.
- Linden Boulevard corridor. The main drag — Jamaican and Haitian cuisine (Meritta's Jamaican/vegan spot, Brasserie Creole), Farmbria By Food Bazaar grocery, the library with its teen center.
- Belmont Park & UBS Arena (Elmont). A mile north — Triple Crown horse racing at Belmont Park and the NHL's Islanders at UBS Arena, the area's big-ticket entertainment.
- Laurelton West Playground. Recently rebuilt with $4M in upgrades including a new skate park — the south-end spot for skaters and families.
